Kraka-woman In the Nordic mythology, Kraka is a wise and resourceful woman. She was born as daughter of the king and was later brought up in a poor family. She ended up by marrying the viking chief Regnar Lodbrog.
According to legend, Kraka was put to solve difficult puzzles before meeting Regnar Lodbrog. She had to appear before him "neither clothed nor naked, neither satisfied nor fasting, and neither alone nor accompanied by any human being." Kraka solved the puzzles by covering herself in a fishing net and biting into an onion, which is not food but which makes others realise that she is not fasting.
Then she made a dog accompany her.
The legend tells us that Kraka was in all respects a clever, strong and resourceful woman.
Therefore the name of KRAKA has been chosen as common denomination for the co-operation between a number of women's organisations from Denmark, Greenland, and South Schleswig..
